At the end of season one and throughout season two, Peter Hale put into motion a plot to bring himself back to life. And thanks to Lydia and Derek, it succeeds!

Only, not quite as Peter had intended, this time. Or expected. Yes, he returned to life… but so did his niece. So did Laura Hale. The very niece that he murdered in the first place. She comes along for the ride and is suddenly set down in a Beacon Hills that has moved on, despite it only having been a handful of months. Much to everyone’s surprise. Especially Peter’s.

They somehow manage to come up with a quite frankly RIDICULOUS sounding explanation about how she’s still alive, that for some reason people actually BUY. And then she's figuring out how to live again.
